Welcome to the Geneverse Wiki

"Use your imagination."

This wiki is here to provide information about the numerous characters, locales and systems created by K25fF, in particular the superpowered universe shown in the webcomic Chiasmata, the Electrophoresis ARG, and other works.

The Geneverse

The Geneverse is a universe in which two stories, Chiasmata and Eletrophoresis, are set. These stories were created by K25fF, an author and artist in the UK who specializes in philosophical horror and mystery. The Geneverse itself is an alternate universe in which some humans are gifted with superpowers via mysterious events known as Cold Lights.

Chiasmata

Chiasmata is an ongoing interactive comic hosted on Eagle-Time and the mspaforums. It’s an ontological mystery in which 12 humans find themselves in a strange, near featureless building called the Location, each with a strangely selective case of amnesia and a new power they don’t yet fully understand. They progress through the Location via challenges that demonstrate the uses and limits of their powers, and attempt to piece together the reason for their situation and who is behind it. Chiasmata is also full of codes and hidden messages, many of which hint at elements of Electrophoresis and the nature of powers and the Location. You can catch up on Chiasmata via the mirror, or read through the thread to see the progression of reader speculation and puzzle-solving. I highly recommend you read through the thread if possible.

Electrophoresis

Electrophoresis is a planned sequel to Chiasmata. It will follow a not-yet-created superhuman protagonist and their superhuman friends. Little else has been said about the plot, but an incredible amount of information is available on K2’s blog involving characters and concepts that will appear in Electrophoresis, from allies to villains to the mechanics of powers and the operations of major organizations.

Powers

In the Geneverse, powers are granted when a human is hit by a “Cold Light”, an incredibly fast and accurate phenomenon which is impossible to predict or prevent according to current knowledge. The source and purpose of Cold Lights is as of yet unknown. Once every year or so, there is a particularly large and concentrated “shower” or Cold Lights, creating a large number of superhumans in a relatively small area. Geneverse powers are sorted, in the Location and in a meta sense, according to a symbol system. Though the symbol system has not been completely and definitively figured out, tumblr user minitiate has perhaps the best organized and most thorough ideas about how the symbols work. Powers also have distinctive colors, though it has been stated that only some colors have significant meaning (specifically black, white, colorless, and perhaps a fourth unkown).

As mentioned in the description of Chiasmata, powers have limits. If a power is used too much, or too often, unpleasant side effects occur. What the side effect is will differ from person to person, and has seemingly little to no connection to the nature of their powers, serving only as a detriment. Side effects will subside if powers are not used for an extended period of time, with the exception of Changelings. Changelings are superhumans with permanent side effects, often but not always taking the form of inhuman physical features. Superhumans also often have secondary powers which help them to maintain or use their powers without detrimentally negative effects. A person who creates fire, for example, will be relatively immune to heat damage, at the very least from their own flames.

Powers also adhere to a rule called the Cammaerts Axiom, after the in-universe scientist who first documented the tendency. The Cammaerts Axiom states that as a general rule, powers are unable to interfere with, predict, or detect the nature of Cold Lights, the origin of powers, and the Location. Some powers are able to ignore the axiom, but this is rare, and usually attempting to do so will result in a burst of extreme side effects or the failure of secondary powers. The effects of breaching the axiom are explained by K2 here. About Geneverse Organizations

In the Geneverse, three groups are generally considered the “big players” in terms of power and influence. Other significant groups exist, including some that are explicitly anti-superhuman, but the following three are the most important for the budding Geneverse fan to understand:

The Chiasm Syndicate is a scientific organization shrouded in mystery. It employs many powerful superhumans to keep itself running smoothly, using them for purposes from information gathering to convenient spacial warping. It is best known for its SCUs, or Superhuman Containment Units, with which it keeps some of the more dangerous or unpredictable superhumans in check. The Leftwards SCU, in particular, hosts superhumans referred to as Subjects 000 through 010, many of which we can only speculate about at the moment. The leader and figurehead of the Syndicate is Dr. Alice Hemsley, whose origins are unknown. She is a suspicious and powerful character, but is well-liked and effective in her work.

The Benefactor’s League is an organization that employs superhumans as agents of public good. They are essentially the Good Guy Group, and are usually the ones to handle the more dangerous superhuman threats. At the head of the League is Adamant, an intelligent woman who uses technology to succeed in combat. Other big players are Device, a technological genius with no idea how his inventions work, Augment, an extremely quick healer, and Motor, who is grumpy and telekinetic.

The Third Network is a sort of superhuman mafia with a wide area of influence. It is led by many powerful superhumans, but the leaders most relevant thus far are Lie Devourer, a deaf reality warper via his words, Misery, a blind water woman, and Lord Tawkin, a jerk wizard with no tongue. Despite being an organized crime group, the Network has cooperated with the League and the Syndicate on several occasions. A large enough threat will convince them to temporarily work with their enemies.

About Threats:

In the Geneverse, superhumans are ranked according to the potential threat they pose. Superhumans not affiliated with any organization are extant threats, and of these, only a few have been discussed in detail. The highest-ranked (delta) threats are as follows: Duchess Epidermis is a Hungarian woman who likes to garden and play with organs. She lives in an abandoned city and has been known to negotiate with the League on occasion.

Cindersoul is a superhuman who (we think) causes explosions. He(?) is currently in captivity in a forcefielded area of desert in the midwest US called the Snowdome.

Teratoma is an extremist environmentalist who has claimed part of Australia as his territory. He is resistant to negotiations and cooperation.

Cold Drinker is a Russian superhuman with presumably cold-based powers. She seems to be content to stay in her own space, and not much else has been said about her. Hollow is a solipsistic genocidal cannibal. That’s the kind of universe this is. Nihil was(is?) a superhuman with a mysterious power that is deemed one of the most dangerous superhumans to exist, though by all appearances they had(have?) no ill intent. They were surrounded by a bright light and no one was able to get close to or communicate with them, so far as we know.

564 is perhaps the biggest danger in the Geneverse. Their power, origin, and appearance are unknown. Every so often, a disastrous event occurs in a populated area that causes a lot of chaos and many deaths. These are 564 events, and they are difficult to predict and impossible to stop. 564 is identified only by the number they carve into the first victim of each massacre, and nothing else is (officially) known about them.
